Helsingin Sanomat julkaisi tänään keskiviikkona 22.2.2023 uutisen otsikolla Helsingin Hakaniemessä halutaan purkaa rakennus, jossa kerrotaan, että Kiinteistökehittäjä Kansallis-yhtiöt hakee kaavamuutosta omistamalleen kerrostalolle Hakaniemen hallin tuntumassa osoitteessa Hämeentie 3.


Hämeentie 3 päävuokralainen on KokoTeatteri ja teatterin tiloissa toimii myös Koko Jazz Club. Rakennuksen purku- ja uudisrakentamisen suunnitelmat ovat olleet teatterilla jo pitkään tiedossa.


Jo nykyisessä vuoden 2008 asemakaavassa matala siipirakennus on ollut mahdollista purkaa ja korvata 4–6-kerroksisella uudisrakennuksella, mutta nämä suunnitelmat eivät ole toteutuneet. Uudessa kaavamuutoksessa omistaja hakee kaavamuutosta toimistotalon, eli Hämeentien rakennuksen puolelle.
